The Fast One Cycle Race
This event is our flagship project and will take place on Sunday 29 January 2012
The venue is the Midvaal Raceway and the route is a circular of 109km, enter online at Cyclelab Road Events

2010 Event
The Fast One Cycle Race was supported by more than 4 000 cyclists.
The new route for 2011 in the Midvaal area had been described as safer but much more tougher than the previous route from Johannesburg to Vanderbijlpark by particpants.
The event was supported by various sponsors including the Midvaal Municipality, Midvaal Raceway, Pick a Pay Bedworthpark, Pick a Pay Corporate, Security Mecca, TC Radio Communications, St. Johns Ambulance Services, BMW Vaal Ridge Auto and ER24.
The safety and emergency route management had been outstandingly managed by ER24 and St Johns Ambulance Services. The overall report includes: two men hospitalised when a group of 20 cyclists collided with concussions, shoulder- and other fracturers, one cyclist fell and was hospitalised with minor injuries, bee stings in one incident, hyper ventilisation and general exhaustion. 'I am amazed that not more cyclists were injured due to the ignorance of general road safety by participants," says Gareth Staley from ER24.
More than 10 Rotary Clubs benefits from this annual project organised by the Rotary Club Riverside. This event takes place every year on the last Sunday in January.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL - background
Paul Harris established the first Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905. The Club was started by four members and meetings took place in a rotation format at different venues – thus the name Rotary. There are more than 3 000 Rotary Clubs worldwide.
The Paul Harris Award is the highest recognition in the Rotary Foundation for member’s contributions. Various members from the Rotary Club Riverside did receive this prestigious award.
Women were welcomed as members in 1987 for the first time. Today women fulfill a prominent role in the local, district and national management structures.
SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Members soon realise that fellowship is fundamental in creating a better world for all and Rotary Clubs strive towards mutual goals of excellence in their communities.
The first project in the world where Rotary was recognized as a service organization was in downtown Chicago in the early 1980’s. (Public washrooms were upgraded)
The theme for 2010 is THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS. The theme is changed every year to enhance the direction and focus on projects in the following year.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (Ryla)
The youth are invited through the Ryla to participate in a weekend-long program where issues in different communities are highlighted. This program is of high value to these learners who are in the process of making career choices and considering future their role in their communities.
